2017 Oktoberfest Press Release (Please distribute freely)
GET READY! Find your dirndl dress and lederhosen as Emu Park’s iconic “Oktoberfest” is fast approaching! Due to band commitments, the traditional Bavarian festival will become a ‘Novemberfest’ this year to be held on Saturday 4th November. With humble beginnings in 1984 the Emu Park Lion’s annual festival and major fundraiser is now celebrating its 33rd year.
The day will resonate to the sounds of the ever-popular Kalendar Band and together with the very talented Karen Williams (aka “Heidi the yodeling queen”) and jazz musician Tom Nicholson, will entertain patrons with a floor show of OOM PAH PAH and traditional Bavarian folk songs, cowbells, Swiss Alp horn, yodeling and dynamic audience rapport. The dance floor will overflow with revelers dancing the night away. Each year more and more patrons are joining the fun and dressing in traditional costume adding to their Oktoberfest experience. There will be a variety of foods and imported beers on offer and souvenirs available from the Stein Stall.
Raffle winners will enjoy three nights for two people on Heron Island (including daily breakfast & transfers from Gladstone). 2nd prize will be combined vouchers and goods valued at $250 provided by Unleashed Hair & Boutique and Capricorn Health & Wellness.
Licensing laws will be strictly adhered to and prohibit alcohol from being brought in or taken out of the event. Only sealed bottles of water will be permitted through the gate. Bags may be searched and/or restricted. ID will be required to verify age and a responsible adult must accompany minors. Persons under the age of 18 will not be permitted in the licensed area after 6:00pm. No dogs or eskies will be allowed into the venue. Pass outs will be provided for patrons who wish to leave and return to the venue.
Patrons are advised to organize transport and accommodation beforehand to avoid drinking and driving. The usual Saturday Young’s Bus Service will be operating with extra runs provided – from Zilzie 3.00pm & 5:00pm; to Zilzie 9.10pm & 9.40pm; to Yeppoon 9.30pm & 9.45pm; & 3 services to Rockhampton (via Zilzie (if needed) & Yeppoon) at 10.30pm.
